Traffic Update

PROJECT IMPACTS

On Monday, November 21, 2016 the contractor for the project (Dan’s Excavating, Inc.) placed the needed traffic control for the project and successfully implemented the planned detour route for the project. We have observed the traffic flow along the detour route and made some minor modifications to allow the detour route to function in an appropriate manner. We will continue to observe its operation and make adjustments as practicable. East Stadium Blvd from South Industrial to Kipke Dr is open only for access to the University of Michigan facilities and the Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club.

The Contractor has begun mobilizing materials and equipment to the jobsite. The mobilization will continue for the next couple of weeks as they begin their work on the project.  Currently, the contractor has been removing trees along the south side of East Stadium Blvd in preparation for the installation of the new retaining wall. We expect the steel sheeting installation be begin on, or about, December 9th. Once the retaining wall construction is well underway, the contractor will then begin installing storm sewer along East Stadium Blvd.

AMENITIES

Bike lanes will be included within the roadway, to provide connectivity with the bike lanes currently in existence at the east and west borders of the project. The City will be installing a sidewalk on the south side of Stadium Blvd (between the entrance to the University of Michigan Golf Course and the intersection of South Main and Stadium Blvd) to eliminate the sidewalk gap that currently exists in this location.  These  improvements are part of the City’s “Complete Streets” philosophy and are already in place at both ends of the project limits and along virtually every other major street within the City.

The City’s desired outcomes for this project include:

  • Improved roadway surface conditions and geometrics;
  • Enhanced capacity and condition of the water mains (pipes that carry clean drinking water);
  • Enhanced storm water management and improved water quality; and
  • Increased safety and accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists.
